About the Artist

Dre Coronel, “6shorty” is a Filipino American abstract artist whose work is an encapsulation of divine feminine energy through warmth and light. Dre’s art career began in the fall of 2019 in a Fundamentals of Painting course where she discovered her interest in oil painting. Through painting, she later discovered her interest in abstraction.

In the summer of 2023, Dre took a leap of a lifetime to leave her career in Retail Sales & Management to pursue her art career in full force. Shortly after debuting "6shorty" in her sold-out exhibit "Passion, Purpose, Resilience." 6shorty’s collection of works is an embodiment of all things divine and warm. 

The "6shorty," was created in Dre's early high school years after cultivating an interest in the 7 Chakras. The number "6" in 6shorty represents the sixth or Third Eye Chakra. The third eye chakra, also known as 'Ajna,' is said to be located in the center of the forehead between one's eyebrows. It's believed to be linked to intuition, self-awareness, and spiritual connection. Dre's art practice is deeply routed in intention and connectivity. Despite the media's pressures of rapid production and consumption, 6Shorty taps into her intuition to create meaningfully and intentionally. Dre urges other creatives to, "release the expectations of an end result" when leaning into your passions. Just create for the sake of creating.

Living by Brene Brown's saying, "You can do hard things," Dre believes that the most beautiful things in life come from seeking light and growth in the most difficult and uncomfortable situations. All things are possible through gratitude, passion and love.

"I hope everyone gets a chance in this lifetime to pursue their dreams unapologetically. To listen to that calling and never look back. No mud, no lotus. I pray that every creative keeps that spark alive regardless of the season. I just know I was meant to do this--that Art is my reason and my calling. I don't know where I'm going or what I'm doing, but I do know that I'm meant to be here doing this. I thank everyone who's shown love along the way and hope your love and support is returned back to you 10-fold. I have a lot of hope in this life and I am so grateful you exist, we exist."
